
2008 Tennessee State Biennial FOP Conference
The 2008 Tennessee State Biennial FOP Conference was held June 25-28, in Kingsport, TN at the Meadoview Conference Resort. 135 delegates were present from across the state, representing the 9325 FOP members we currently have in Tennessee. Below are the 3 Resolutions that were passed, and well as the 4 proposed State By Law changes and their outcome.
Resolution 1 - TNFOP License Plates - (2008-002) (Passed Unanimously)
This resolution stated,"Now let it be resolved that the spouse of a member who has passed away while in good standing, and presently has a TNFOP specialized license plate, be allowed to continue to renew that plate in so long as that spouse does not remarry, and that the application for the TNFOP license plate be submitted to the TNFOP Secretary's Office each year to verify the appplicants status." This resolution passed unanimously.
Resolution 2 - TNFOP Charities - (2008-003) (Passed Unanimously)
This resolution directed the TNFOP to start the TNFOP Law Enforcement Charities Fund to support all charitable activities and programs conducted by the TNFOP. It also proposed for it to have 501(c)(3) status. This resolution passed unanimously.

Article 11/Section 2 - Election Rules at State Conference
This changed proposed that "Delegates are not allowed to show their marked ballots to anyone" and that voting members "must stay more than twenty (20) feet from the voting area." This proposed change was submitted by Lodge #5 and was defeated.

Article 11/Section 1 - Nomination and Election of Officers of State Lodge (National Trustee)
This change proposed that "The National Trustee will be elected at the State Biennial Conference beginning in 2010. The National Trustee elected at the 2009 National Conference will serve a one year term. There after the term of office will begin with the election at each State Biennial Conference." This proposed change was submitted by the State Lodge Executive Board and was passed.

Article 13/Section 1 - Dues and Assesments
This change proposed that each lodge's newely assesed $10 per capita dues assesment be earmarked solely for the Natural Death Benefit Fund. (The State Board of Trustees had already voted in their meeting to have a $10 assement added to each member, to bolster the Natural Death Benefit Fund. This vote was to earmark it solely for that fund, and the assement could not be used for other means.) This proposed change was submitted by the State Lodge Executive Board and was passed.

Article 3/Section 1 - Membership
This change proposed to add the following language: "An applicant must apply for membership within the jurisdiction of employment, or if none exists, they must apply within the nearest lodge." This proposed change failed.
